When you upgrade, you will receive a personal key which you can use to unlock advanced features and turn off the reminder ads in the main window. Your upgrade key will be shown on the final page of the order process (also sent via email), and will look something like this:
Select and copy the key into the clipboard, and run Hardwipe as a standalone application and click "Activate Key Code" under the "Help" menu. You will then see a window like the one below. Now hit the "Paste" button to insert the key text into the input box. Click OK.
Simply install your license key using the GUI, as above, and the command line utility will recognize this. Alternatively, the key can be supplied over the command line interface. See command line utility for the list of input parameters.
You need a "Professional Upgrade" to use the command line utility; an "Essential Upgrade" license key will not work with this feature. If you have a professional key, Hardwipe Commander will be activated when you input the key into the main application GUI.
A "Professional Upgrade" key is needed with the Portable Edition of the software, and must be entered when the application is launched for the first time. When inputing your key, make sure the application directory is writable otherwise the key activation will not be permanent.
Note that an "Essential Upgrade" license key will not work with the Portable Edition.
The key must be entered exactly. Don't attempt to type in the key one character at a time — mistakes are best avoided by copying and pasting it directly from the order confirmation page or email. Do not include any additional text with the key.

You will be given an upgrade key on the final page of the order process. If you missed this because you inadvertently closed the page, you will also receive the key via email. If you have not received this, please check your spam box to see if the mail has ended up there. If you have not received an email after several hours, please contact Order Support, above, quoting the name and email address you used to make the order.
Yes. If you purchased an upgrade for version 4 or earlier, your key will still work with the latest version and covers you for both Desktop and Portable Editions.
Absolutely. You can use it on any device, provided you are the primary user of that device. The software, including the upgrade, is licensed on a per user basis, not on a per device basis.
No. The "Desktop Edition" of Hardwipe is free only for non-commercial use. However, as a commercial entity, you are certainly welcome to download and install it for purposes of evaluation.
Absolutely. If you work on your own, i.e. you are a contractor or sole trader, you need only purchase a single user upgrade. If you plan to deploy the software to multiple users in your company, please see the commercial licensing page.
Additionally, if you purchase an upgrade for yourself and want to run Hardwipe on the computer you use at your place of work, this is fine also, provided that computer is primarily used by you. The software remains licensed to you, not your employer, and it is your responsibility to ensure that this meets with your employer's IT policies.
For purposes of clarification, it is not acceptable for you to share your license key with others, nor is it acceptable for a business to purchase a single user upgrade and then distribute the license key amongst its staff. Suitable volume or enterprise-wide licenses should be purchased from the commercial licensing page.
Updates are normally provided to existing customers who purchase a perpetual upgrade without charge. However, the right is reserved to charge in the future for software which is considered to be a signficant product update, or where technical restrictions may prevent license key migration.
Hardwipe is effectively "try-before-you-buy" software which allows you to make sure that the product is compatible with your computer system and meets all of your requirements. Before you purchase, please choose carefully and make sure you buy the right upgrade option. We cannot refund your order or change your product simply because you have made a wrong selection.
Yes. If you previously purchased the "Essential Upgrade", and now want to move to the "Professional Upgrade", please email Technical Support, above, with your original order number for details of a reduced cost option.
